Yes, bouncy castles are safe when they've been tested, put up properly and used with an adult watching. I'm an RPII tester, so I test every one of our inflatables myself, once a year, to BS EN 14960, the British and European safety standard for bouncy castles.
What happened to PIPA?
You may have seen PIPA tags on bouncy castles, and until recently ours were PIPA tested too. Now I test them myself as an RPII (Register of Play Inspectors International) tester. The standard the castles are tested against, BS EN 14960, is the same.
The test checks things like the strength of the seams and fabric, the anchor points, the walls and netting, and that the blower keeps the castle at the right pressure.
RPII tags are coming soon, but they're not out yet. For now, after each test I write up a report for that inflatable and upload it to our website as a PDF, so you can see when it was last tested.
How can I check a castle is safe?
Whoever you hire from, these are worth asking about:
- When was it last tested, and can I see the report? It should have been tested in the last 12 months.
- Is it going on the right ground? Our inflatables only go outside on grass, or indoors on a hard floor. We never put them outside on patios, concrete or tarmac, even though some companies do. There's more on our ground and surfaces page.
- What happens if it's windy? Bouncy castles can't be used in winds over 24mph. Our bad weather policy explains what we do if the forecast looks bad.
- How many children can go on at once? It depends on the castle and how tall the children are. Each of our product pages has a Users tab with the limits, for example the 3D Superhero castle.
- Is it clean? We clean every inflatable with Bio-San disinfectant after every hire.
Our electrics, including the blowers, are PAT tested every six months, and we need a normal plug socket within 30 to 50 metres. Our power page has the details.

On the day
We secure the castle and check it before we leave, and go through the rules with you: no shoes, no food or drink on the castle, and keep to the user limits. The most important rule is that an adult watches the castle the whole time it's in use.
